So far so good on the no sweets until spring break thing. I do have about 9 more hours though til the end of the day. I have a feeling it will get harder, but I think as long as I can keep my mind off eating, I'll be ok.
On another note, I had a great Bible class today! I don't call myself the best bible teacher by any means, but today was great! I even had a student say, "This was a fun Bible class today!". I love it when I get to incorporate the things our Pastor says in my Bible class with the curriculum we are doing at that moment. I actually got to get in some things Pastor said in a few sermons in this one class! We are talking about Gideon in Judges 6-8 and how he was not your typical "warrior" but God chose him anyway to lead the Israelites. I was able to incorporate some of the things Pastor said in his "dip" series like the "3 R's"...Receive, Remember, & Respond. I told them that Gideon had to receive the activity God was sending him, remember God's past faithfulness even when Gideon doubted (the way God always brought the Israelites through battles), and respond to who God wanted him to become (a stong leader). Shoutout to Pastor Steven!
My kids also have a memory verse this week from 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 which talks about honoring the body God gave you. We ended up talking about hanging out with the wrong crowds and how they will bring you down if you're not careful. I was so excited when I thought about this...I told them that we were going to do a little illustration. Adam's parents told me about an illustration that they did in their Sunday School class once. So, I got 2 students up front and pulled 2 desks up. I had one of my biggest (tallest) students stand on top of the chair and told him to try to pull the other student up to the 2nd chair. He tried and tried and couldn't do it. Then I told the student who was on the floor to try to pull Charlie down and he did right away. They had a blast with this and I proceeded to tell them that if you're hanging around people you shouldn't be around and you're telling yourself that you will change their ways, it's never going to happen. However, it is very easy for them to pull you down (out of God's hands) into their "world". I challenged them to look at their lives and ask themselves if who they're hanging out with is influencing their behaviors for the good or for the bad. Shoutout to Mom and Dad #2 (thanks for the idea)!!
Alright, sorry to keep rambling...keep watching for operation "no sweets" updates, and oh yea, 20 days til Disney!!
